Last night
's election results were a step in the right direction for both Canada and the United States, according to this
american studying at Queen's University.
Meghan Brunner:
"I think he's definitely going to work on Obama care, and I think it is going to resemble a lot of what the Canadian health care system is"
Canada and the United States share one of the longest borders and are currently the world's largest trading partners.....
Their relationship has spanned more than two centuries, for the most part,
harmoniously.
Braden Tozzo:
"there are a few issues that have popped up over the years, the keystone pipeline, softwood lumber, and those will continue to come up"
With Obama re-elected as president for a second term, more issues could arise,
according to this Political Science Teaching Fellow.
Braden Tozzo:
"They are going to face a fiscal cliff at the end of the year, where if they don't do anything, major tax cuts are going to go away, and major tax increases are going to be there and there's going to be major cuts to spending."
Between now and December, Obama has to work withhis new
congress to come to some sort of agreement....or it could result in unemployment and another U-S recession.
Braden Tozzo:
"Obama's got a real challenge, I mean these are not great times for the economy they need to do something to get the economy growing again, and I don't know if this congress he can work with them"
that could mean less demand for Canadian goods south of the b
order and possible job losses.
Braden Tozzo:
"That's the sad truth of it is that at this point I think the political system is inhibiting America's economic growth."
