TORONTO - Kerry Joseph scored on a 13-yard run with 23 seconds remaining to rally the Toronto Argonauts to a thrilling 35-31 win over the Edmonton Eskimos on Sunday.

Joseph marched Toronto 109 yards on 11 plays on their decisive march to lead Toronto to a split of the home-and-home series. Joseph, who led CFL quarterbacks in rushing last year with over 700 yards, finished with a game-high 118 yards rushing. Joseph was 22-of-38 passing for 343 yards and a TD.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Toronto turned key hits into a rare road victory.

Alex Rios and Marco Scutaro homered and the Blue Jays avoided a three-game sweep with a 9-4 victory over the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

STANFORD, Calif. - Qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak became the first Canadian to win a WTA Tour singles title in 20 years, taking an advantage of an injury to Marion Bartoli to win the Bank of the West Classic 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday.

Wozniak, 20, needed to win eight matches - including three qualifiers - in nine days to become the first Canadian since Jill Hetherington at Wellington in February 1988 to win a women's singles title. Wozniak was only five months old at the time.

Johan Le Bon of France won the gold medal in three hours 20 minutes and 52 seconds with Mattia Cattaneo of Italy second in 3:20:54. Sebastian Lander of Italy led a group of eight riders that included Lambert-Lemay to grab the bronze in 3:20:55.

PRATO NEVOSO, Italy - Frank Schleck of Luxembourg seized the overall lead in the Tour de France on Sunday, drawing on his strength in the mountains and getting an assist from his brother as the three-week race headed into the Italian Alps.

"For me to take the yellow jersey, it's a childhood dream," Schleck said.

PRATO NEVOSO, Italy - Oscar Pereiro of Spain pulled out of the Tour de France after breaking his shoulder in a crash Sunday.

ST-HYACINTHE, Que. - Julie Warnock of Airdrie, Alta., won the gold medal in double mini trampoline and a bronze in trampoline to finish this weekend's Canada Cup competition with three medals.

On double mini trampoline, Warnock, the reigning world championship silver medallist, was first with 137.00 points. Corissa Boychuk of Airdrie was second at 129.00 and Gillian Bruce of Calgary third at 119.8.

WINNIPEG - Olympic medal hopeful Mike Brown won the gold medal in the men's 200-metre breaststroke then helped the University of Calgary Swim Club beat its national club record in the 4X100 medley relay to conclude the Summer Nationals swimming competition.

In the 4X100 relay, Dan Langlois, Brown, Adam Sioui and Joel Greenshields clocked 3:41.14 for the gold medal and eclipse its previous national club mark of 3:41.86 set at last year's Summer Nationals.

MARSEILLE, France - Federico Hilaire and Cesar Leguizamon scored twice each to give Argentina a 5-2 victory over the United Arab Emirates on Sunday and send it to the quarter-finals of the beach soccer World Cup, while Russia and Spain kept alive their chances of advancing.

In Group D, Brazil routed Japan 8-1 to remain atop Group D, getting a pair of goals from Junior Negao.

LAS VEGAS - Three weeks wasn't enough time to prepare for the last Olympics. So now the United States is trying three years.

The Americans open training camp Monday, but they're much closer to the end of their Olympic preparations than the beginning. With the same coaching staff and many of the same players back for their third straight summer, much of the work has already been done.

EMBRUN, France - British sprinter Mark Cavendish pulled out of the Tour de France before Sunday's 15th stage, featuring major climbs in the Alps.

Cavendish won four stages at this year's race with sprint finishes. Team Columbia manager Bob Stapleton said he and Cavendish had reached a mutual decision after the 23-year-old cyclist complained of tiredness recently.
