Canadian judokas win five gold at Rendez-Vous Canada competition
October 5, 2008the Rendez-Vous Canada judo competition, increasing their medal total at the tournament to 28.
Isabel Latulippe of St-Hubert, Que., earned her third victory in as many weeks in women's 48-kilogram event defeating Natalie Laffon of the U.S., by Ippon.
Maude-Helene Benoit of Quebec City beat Jennie Bonsant, also of Quebec, for the win in women's 63 kg.
In women's 70 kg, Kelita Zupancic of Whitby, Ont., beat Gaelle Possamai of France in the final.
In men's competition, Sergio Pessoa Jr., of Montreal beat Olympian Frazer Will of Star City, Sask., in the 60 kg final.
In the men's 66 kg final, Michal Popiel of Montreal defeated Jean-Philippe Gagnon of Baie-Comeau, Que., by a Koka.
In the 73 kg event, Olympian Nicholas Tritton of Perth, Ont., lost in the final to De Souza Miranda of Brazil.
